black spaces

During my yoga journey, years passed before I encountered other students and teachers who looked like me who were serious (or even not so serious) about their practice. Not because they didn’t exist, but because there were no outlets available to showcase that existence. Until very recently, a cursory Google image search for ‘yoga’ or any specific yoga pose (try searching ‘downdog’) revealed only slim, white bodies. Now, post-BLM-Summer 2020, on a full page of images we may see one or two photos that don’t fit that description. Progress? Maybe.

With HEREIN, I am intentionally adding another space for black folks to gain access to yoga, especially inquisitive, new, eager-to-learn black yogis (who hesitate to even apply the word ‘yogi’) to come and just ‘be’ with the practice. If this is your first session, know that you’re welcome to fall through, leave your bonnet or durag on, and stretch it out with me.

Consider arranging a 45-minute session for Girl or Guy’s Weekend, your next sorority or fraternity meeting, family reunion, or what have you. Review the options under Personal Yoga and then reach out to inquire about putting together a dope session for you and your people.
