I wanted to reflect strength as I was facing a sort of imposter syndrome after my rejection from Governor’s School. Out of admiration for Erykah Badu and her emotional intelligence, I used her as a reference picture, lining the background with lyrics from her On and On, knowing that regardless of what goes on in life, my walk never ends. Mixed Media - Charcoal, Oil Pastel, Black Ink 22" x 30" $1250
HEARTED SLEEVE Walking away from a relationship where I felt my love was never reciprocated, I chose to create a self-portrait that depicted the promise I made to myself on September 28th, 2022. Despite my experiences with people whose hearts wouldn’t let them love unconditionally, I would never stop being who I am. As you can see from my posture in the photo, I am confident and never powerless, but my emotions I will never deny. Acrylic Paint 18" x 24" $1250
PAUSE I chose to create this piece because I was battling with impatience. In life, I feel we have a tendency to anticipate the outcome of things without practicing gratitude. I found an old baby picture in my mom's phone that sparked an idea. The young girl who had a love for exploring and taking pictures would be beyond proud of me, and the young girl I still am who enjoys exploring and drawing pictures will be proud of whoever I am in 10 years. There’s no need for envy or comparison, only love and gratitude. Oil pastel 11" x 14" $850
CAN WE STAY Being away from home during Governor’s School made me miss what I could experience every day. My little cousins have always been a breath of fresh air, with a curious nature. The original photograph captured them standing in front of an abandoned construction site. They are so young, and I love that they ask questions about everything, I hope that they never lose their desire to seek answers and follow their own questions. I believe this trait can take you far, far enough to outer space! Photograph, Posca Marker 8.5" x 11" $850
LET'S GO HOME NOW Following the creation of Can We Stay, I wanted to show appreciation for home, and the environment that made us who we are. I loved the astronaut figure so I kept that concept and placed my cousins in 3 different environments insinuating their journey back to where they came from. Linoleum Cut, Posca Marker 9" x 19" $975
LOOK AT ME Look at Me is a piece I created while facing uncertainty. This past summer has taught me that I feel angst and discomfort when an outcome is not certain, and I’ve come to identify this as fear. For three weeks straight, I allowed myself to spiral amongst these thoughts, unable to cherish the precious, fleeting moments of the present. I added the reflective material all around the figure and placed its gaze downward so that as you walked past it, the piece would demonstrate how we miss what is in front of us when we are lost in thought. Mixed Media - Acrylic Paint, Oil Pastel, Reflective Material, Cement Blocks 20" x 20" $1100
BLUE This is a self-portrait where I focused on capturing myself where I felt most beautiful. I’ve come to pride myself in remaining composed and determined despite the internal battle I fight with remaining grounded. The bright yellow shades of my skin represent that energy I intentionally place myself within, hoping to remain consistent and focused, and the blue shades of my hair represent the fluidity of my thoughts and emotions, forever being a daydreamer at heart. Oil pastel 18" x 24" $1150
